“Not feeding the thoughts is step fucking one.”
For many of us, negative thoughts have a way of looping endlessly in our minds.
We ruminate, obsess, and try to solve problems from the very state of being that created them in the first place.
no problem can be solved from the same state of being it was created in.
The first step in breaking free is simple but profound: stop feeding the thoughts.
When I mastered this, everything began to change. Instead of staying stuck in my mind’s endless chatter, I started shifting my state. Whether it was meditation, a walk, a cold shower, an ice bath, the sauna, or even a float tank, the tools didn’t matter as much as the intention. The goal was to move into stillness and stop engaging with the thoughts entirely.
Here’s why breaking the habit of being yourself is so critical:
Our brain thinks thoughts. Those thoughts trigger the hypothalamus to release peptides. Those peptides flood the body, creating emotions. The body becomes addicted to those chemicals, and the mind becomes addicted to the thoughts that create them. This cycle traps us in a virtual reality created by our own biology.
Your body and mind literally memorize this cycle, and over time, it becomes your identity.
For weeks, I experienced this cycle firsthand. I’d wake up every morning feeling like I was in hell. I’d spend four hours processing my emotions just to get through the day. And every night, fear would creep in again as I anticipated another night of processing trauma in my dreams.
I knew something had to change.
Breaking the habit of being yourself doesn’t mean ignoring your emotions or pretending they don’t exist. It means changing your relationship with them.
Like in the movie A Beautiful Mind, where the protagonist learns to coexist with his imaginary friends without treating them as real, I had to learn to coexist with my fears and feelings without feeding them.
Here’s how:
Acknowledge Their Presence: Instead of rejecting or suppressing your emotions, let them be there. Don’t try to cover them up with positivity or spiritual bypassing. Accept them without judgment.
Stop Feeding Them: Refuse to give your thoughts and emotions more energy or attention than necessary. Don’t ruminate. Don’t engage. Simply observe.
Shift to Stillness: Use tools like meditation, deep breathing, or movement to shift your focus to stillness and the divine within you. By doing this, you fill yourself with love and calm.
Breaking free from old patterns takes devotion. When you feel empty, hurt, betrayed, or broken, don’t turn to distraction or self-pity. Instead, devote yourself to stillness and the divine. Fill yourself with love by connecting with your higher self and your vision for the future.
This devotion has a ripple effect:
As you focus on your highest self and dream future, your body begins producing chemicals that align with those thoughts.
You start feeling as if that future has already happened.
This feeling becomes the magnet that draws your vision into reality.
By repeating this process, you retrain your body and mind to become addicted to a new, elevated state of being.
Here are some of the tools that have helped me and many others break free from destructive thought patterns:
Meditation: Create stillness and space in your mind.
Cold Exposure: Cold showers or ice baths help reset your nervous system.
Movement: Walking or exercising can shift your energy and focus.
Mindfulness Practices: Acknowledge your thoughts and emotions without judgment.
Visualization: Focus on your highest self and dream future, creating the emotional state that aligns with it.
Transforming your life isn’t about rejecting who you are; it’s about breaking the cycles that no longer serve you. When you stop feeding the thoughts, shift your state of being, and devote yourself to your highest self, you begin to create a life filled with peace, love, and freedom.
Remember: what you focus on expands.
It’s not about bypassing your emotions or pretending everything is fine. It’s about allowing them to exist without giving them power and choosing to focus on the life and self you’re creating.
You have the power to break the habit of being yourself and step into the life you’ve always dreamed of.
Let’s fucking go.
