"The Man That Masters Himself Through Self-Discipline Can Never Be Mastered By Others." – Napoleon Hill
In a world flooded with quick fixes, shortcuts, and endless self-help content, many find themselves stuck in what I call the "information trap." You know the one—it feels good in the moment to consume more and more information, convincing yourself that you're learning the keys to success. But when the time comes to act, nothing changes.
Why? Because transformation doesn’t happen through consumption alone. It happens through action.
And not just any action—bold, uncomfortable, scary action. The kind that pushes you beyond your limits and forces you to grow. These are the moments that forge character, reveal your inner strength, and unlock parts of you that you never even knew existed.
For me, these transformative moments have often come through modern-day rites of passage—extreme experiences that tested my physical, mental, and emotional boundaries. They weren’t easy, but they unlocked a reservoir of willpower, focus, and drive I had been craving my entire life.
Here are 11 experiences that shaped me, not as a professional athlete or a superhuman, but as an ordinary man with a deep commitment to growth and self-discipline.
The Ironman is the ultimate endurance challenge: a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon. Training and completing it taught me the power of long-term discipline and perseverance.
While training for the Ironman, I found myself in the Grand Canyon on the day of a marathon-distance run. I ran from the bottom to the top and back again, adding a few extra miles for good measure. The intensity of this experience was unmatched, but the sense of accomplishment was life-changing.
This wasn’t just about food; it was about willpower. Three days with no food or water, followed by four days of only water, and then 58 days of fresh organic juice. It was a journey of detoxing my body and reprogramming my mind to conquer cravings and limitations.
Breathwork sounds simple, but this was one of the most challenging mental experiences I’ve faced. Eight intense 2-hour sessions, plus two more in extreme conditions: freezing cold water and overwhelming heat. It required immense willpower to face and release deep emotional blocks.
Alone on a mountain for several days with no food, water, or shelter—just a sleeping bag and prayer. This sacred experience taught me how to commune deeply with nature and my spirit while facing fear, hunger, and even encounters with wild animals.
Ayahuasca is not for the faint-hearted. Under the guidance of shamans, I faced deep inner work that required me to confront my shadows and fears. It was an intense, transformative experience that rewired my perspective on life.
Yes, it’s possible—and I did it. Breathing through the pain during a root canal was one of the most intense tests of mental focus and self-control I’ve ever encountered.
Facilitated by a shaman in Colombia, I experienced being buried alive under the influence of ayahuasca. It was a profound exercise in surrender, trust, and connecting with my deeper self.
Kambo, a rite of passage from Amazonian tribes, involves burning the skin and applying frog venom to the wounds. It’s excruciating but profoundly cleansing for the body and mind. I’ve done this ten times, each time gaining deeper resilience.
Samadhi is a meditative state where you merge with the Source. I’ve only achieved this state a few times, but each experience left an indelible mark on my soul, showing me the boundless potential of human consciousness.
No talking, no distractions—just 10 days of silent meditation for 16 hours a day. Twice, I’ve immersed myself in this discipline, and both times, it redefined my capacity for stillness and self-awareness.
In our modern culture, true rites of passage are rare. Yet, they are essential for growth. They test your limits, build character, and teach you to master yourself. These aren’t just physical challenges; they’re spiritual and emotional journeys.
Most importantly, they remind you that transformation happens through the body. You have to experience the discomfort, the struggle, and the triumph firsthand. No book, video, or seminar can replicate it.
Reading this, you might think, "I could never do that." But let me tell you: I’m not special. I’m not a professional athlete or some superhuman being. What made these experiences possible was simple: commitment and devotion.
Ask yourself:
What scares you?
What challenge are you avoiding?
What action could you take today to step out of your comfort zone?
Transformation doesn’t come from more information. It comes from action. Bold, decisive, disciplined action.
The man who masters himself can never be mastered by others.
What are you waiting for? Start today.

"I feel an openness, a willingness to receive , and a call to soften. I felt the love in my chest expanding outwards into ever fiber, every cell. I feel a rawness as this is a place that I don't feel I've fully felt or been able or free to express. I feel a sense of excitement, joy, ecstasy, and bliss. I feel love opening and it's juiciness." -Shawnalee

“Through working with Christopher John Stubbs on the call this past week. The guilt. The absolute control. The financial control. The revenge. The imprints of never being allowed to be my true self. That began unraveling this week and my former partner felt the shift in me.
The trauma tried to reassert itself through the aggression and blaming and "you owe me" rant and "you're not good enough" and "it's all your fault." Wounded Abuser Energy.
Christopher is able to penetrate my darkest hallways and illuminate and illustrate how to clean it up and be free in the light.
Deeply thankful to Christopher for offering last week’s call.” -Gayla D’Gaia
